Eco-Design: An Innovation That Often Remains Invisible
The Little Prince said that what is essential is invisible to the eye. This phrase can also be applied to our rubber flooring.
When it comes to choosing flooring, we often focus primarily on aesthetics. This is partly why professionals choose Mondo flooring, which offers a multitude of design possibilities in addition to superior comfort. However, beyond the design of our products lies a very interesting concept: eco-design. It is thanks to this concept that Mondo is making significant progress in terms of sustainability and respect for the environment.
Unlike homogeneous floors, which are made of a single layer of material, Mondo floors are composed of two heterogeneous layers. The top layer is designed to offer high durability and aesthetic appeal, while the bottom layer is designed to absorb shocks and reduce sound reverberation.
Unfortunately, standards EN 1817 and EN 12199 do not take into account the difference between homogeneous and heterogeneous rubber flooring. These standards only require that the wear layer be at least 1 mm thick.
Mondo flooring is the only flooring designed in two layers, which allows us to incorporate recycled materials into the manufacture of the bottom layer without affecting the appearance and design of the top layer.
This dual-layer design has allowed us to significantly improve the environmental sustainability of our Gaia products and open up new possibilities for the future of rubber flooring.
Homogeneous technology is limited and does not allow for a circular design approach. The dual-layer design method offers more possibilities, paving the way for a wide variety of circular approaches and innovations.
The heterogeneous nature of our products guarantees optimal design freedom. From a technical standpoint, this method ensures maximum performance without incurring extravagant costs. In terms of environmental responsibility, the possibilities offered by circular design are a significant advantage that cannot be achieved with a homogeneous product.
