SUSTAINABILITY in Rubber Flooring Production
STATEMENT
The environment is a priority. Mondo Contract Flooring is committed to achieving the highest standards that respect both our ecosystem and society around us. Thus offering our users lasting, high quality flooring that respects the environment in all its aspects. Strict controls on production, the scrupulous selection of raw materials and the prestigious international environmental certification of our finished products are proof of our commitment to the environment.
During 2010 we decided to make our contribution to sustainable energy by entrusting to solar energy. We invested in the installation of 4,173 solar panels on our factory roof, giving the potential to generate 1.07 GWh of energy per year. This means that annually we are reducing our CO2 emissions by about 14,440 tons, equivalent to the amount of CO2 absorbed by a forest of 1,000,000 cubic meters. We assessed our products impact by filling our Health Product Declarations (HPD), which in turn allowed us to get certifications. GECA, BLUE ANGEL, GREENGUARD, GREENGUARD GOLD give reassurances that the products designed for indoor environments meet the strict chemical emissions limits in indoor air, contributing to the creation of healthier buildings and better interiors.
Mondo products also significantly contribute to LEED credits, BREEAM certification, as well as compliance to many other criteria set by schemes achieving the international environmental sustainability of buildings. We also carried out a thorough study on the Analysis of the Life Cycle of our products through the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) that tells the complete story of the production process of a product, including information on its long term impact on the environment, the reduction of the ozone layer, water pollution and the emission of greenhouse gases. We continue to demonstrate our commitment to the environment with the introduction of Mondo’s innovative substrate with a high ecological content.
Before production: Mondo analyzes the raw material content of new and existing products to determine the environmental impact they will have during the manufacturing process and after their useful lives. The natural rubber used in Mondo’s flooring products is harvested according to sustainable development principles. The Hevea tree, the source of the rubber used in Mondo floors, is not harmed, so it continues to grow.
Manufacturing: No toxic gases are released during the production process. All trimmings and waste are recycled within Mondo’s facility. The water used for cooling the industrial equipment is supplied by a closed-loop system, which contributes to water conservation and recycling.
After its useful life: Mondo’s rubber flooring products are recyclable so they can be transformed for use in the future.
